We had a full house. A big thank you for all the questions following our Grade 5 Parent and Student presentation. We look forward to our elementary school tours where our future grade 6 students have a second opportunity to ask questions and take a tour of A.J.Smetlzer Junior High. It was nice to meet and see so many families and future A.J. Students.

Sycamore Lane will be coming the morning of the 24th of May.

Do grade 6 students get locks and lockers?

Yes all of our grade 6 students get lockers and our grade 6 teachers do a mini lesson the first day or first week to teach students how to use the locks that are provided for students as part of their student fees. If students are having trouble with their locks students can bring their locks home the first week to practice.

Where does my child go the first day?

The first day of classes we will have staff in the lobby to the school directing all grade 6 students to the gym. Once they are in the gym all grade 6 teachers will be in the gym and they will call out the names of students in their class and walk them to their homeroom.

Will my child have different teachers?

Your child will have one homeroom grade six teacher and they will have a music, gym and core french teacher. All the grade 6 classes are on the first level near the office. If your child identified that they are taking band they will also have a band teacher. All main subjects are taught by their homeroom grade 6 teacher.

Will my child have recess?

All grade 6 students will have a recess with their class and their teacher each day.

Will my child get to take Family Studies and Tech-Ed in grade 6?

Family studies and Tech-Ed is offered to junior high students based on the electives in the Provincial Time to Learn document. Our Grade 6 teachers have access to use our cooking lab and our computer lab anytime through the year.
